The Otters family. My ultra-cute favourite! Haha. They come squealing to you and stand up and when you throw them food they try to hug it to catch it. Cool huh. Oh,and they eat fish! They are kind of squirrel like.
The Babirusa Hogs! We fed them bananas, rice and carrots. The birds love stealing their food. They are some kind of pig and they love wallowing in the mud. I was supposed to clear their poo but the keepers did it for me! :DD I never touched any throughout my attachment. HOHOHO.
The Proboscis Monkey! Apparently the larger the males' noses, the more attractive they are to the female monkeys. Quite weird, huh.
The Malayan Tapir! They are so gentle and stuff and eat papayas, bananas, grapes.
Like so cute right!! Haha. The baby baboons really do look like that. The adult ones looked funny though. At first I thought they were sitting on big pink cushions but then they started moving around and I saw that it was their butts. I got super shocked la. They really were VERY big.
Oh and did you know there is now some Rainforest Kidzworld in the Zoo?! There are pony rides and swimming pools and playgrounds and stuff. Sooooooo fun la! I petted some ponies! :D There was a pony named Belle too and she is supposed to be shy and reserved haha.
There were Inuka and Sheeba the polar bears too. They were super cute! Inuka was hunting for some live fish and their pool was really very blue. Oh we saw a Channel 8 MediaCorp actor there too. Haha.
There were other animals too, of course, but I'll just stop here.
Reasons why I like being a Keeper Volunteer:
1) People think you are a professional. Tourists kept asking me directions which I did not know and then kept running away from me. Kind of weird actually.
2) The kids envy you. Haha I mean like you are the only one who can feed the animals~! Some kids were like "Can I feed?" and giving the innocent face and of course I said no.
3)We get so many breaks. There were tons enough for us to explore the whole zoo but we didn't have enough energy. We didn't even get to see the penguins!
4) You can laugh at other Keeper Volunteers like Genewee who had to pick caterpillars and gross worms.
5) You learn to cut fruits. The keepers were teaching us how to and they sliced like a chef pro. When I cut the fruits into half, the other half would mostly fly into the sink, roll on the floor or else I didn't have enough strength to cut the whole thing into half. The sweet potatoes were really hard ok.
But it was overall really fun and memorable.
I realised I fell sick on my last day of work after I came back from work. Throughout the day I was feeling woozy and knocking down dustbins, dustpans and rakes, haha. Desere helped me sweep up everything. So nice.
I loved my attachment. Though there was this mosquito infested place they kept making us rake (It still makes me shudder. The moment you sweep a small pile of leaves a huge swarm of mosquitoes fly your way and leave you with numerous bites) and was throughly tiring.
And we were all posted to different areas of the zoo and sadly, separated. But zoo was definetely fun.
Anyway, Yay! :D
